Haunting songs inspired by the life and fate of Georg Elser – a musical memorial to the man who almost stopped Hitler

‘13 minutes too late’ – this is how German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung succinctly summed up the drama in an article about the play “13 Minutes – How Georg Elser Almost Changed the World”. Michael Moravek, one of the most poetic representatives of English-language Americana songwriting from Germany, collaborated on the play and composed the music for it.
In 1939, Georg Elser failed in his assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler – and was murdered for it. More than eight decades later, Moravek dedicates an extraordinary work to him: GEORG – Songs of courage, humanity and the question of attitude in dark times. It is the first complete self-contained musical work about Georg Elser.


Memory meets the present

Moravek succeeds in giving Elser a voice – and at the same time allowing the songs to shine with a dramatic topicality that could not be more contemporary. Together with his virtuoso band, he creates sparkling Americana folk rock with jazzy nuances and poetic, yet sober lyrics – currently, there is hardly anything comparable in German-language music.


An artist between folk, memory and attitude

Following his album “Night Songs”, nominated for the German Record Critics' Annual Award (‘A commentary on the times we live in’ – Rolling Stone) and the Upper Swabian Culture Prize awarded in 2025, Moravek builds a bridge between memory and the present with GEORG. It is also his first German-language album – and, as he says, probably his last.

The album will be released on 10 April 2026 in connection with the anniversary of Georg Elser's death on 9 April.
