The duo Henning Lucius and Matthias Veit staged their first Franz Schubert programme ("Divertissement à la hongroise" - TYXart, album no. TXA19124) in 1997 for the great Schubert anniversary in Stuttgart's Liederhalle, and Schubert's piano works for four hands were a constant focus of the performers at their countless concerts.
In the present album, they bring together the great works of the composer's mature period: among others, the famous Fantasia in F minor (almost a "Winter's Journey for Four Hands"), the "Lebensstürme" (Storms of Life) Allegro in A minor, as well as the circus Marches caractéristiques, the Rondo in E minor, a magical hunting piece, and with the Rondeau in A major, perhaps one of the most touching lyrical works that Schubert left us – which, according to the Reclam piano music guide, no one can know, who has not heard his four-hand works. Certainly, this grandiose music should not be missing in any audio library...
